According to TMZ.com, so-called Octomom, Nadya Suleman has checked herself into rehab at Chapman House Rehab in Orange.

The celebrity website says that the pseudo-celebrity checked herself in over the weekend, entering a 30-day program. She says she has become dependent on anti-anxiety drug Xanax, which she began taking to “deal with stress.”

“Nadya wanted to get off the Xanax she was prescribed by her doctor and learn to deal with her stress, exhaustion and anxiety with professional help with a team of doctors,” her rep told TMZ. “Nadya wanted to deal with her issues and make sure she is the best mother she can be.”

As with all patients admitted into rehab, their identity cannot be discussed.

Chapman Rehab is run by a team of specialists, led by America’s Parenting Coach, Tim Chapman.

In trying to deliver the message that drugs are all around our children, in our schools, and infiltrated within our community, Teensavers find many who refuse to believe substance abuse could affect their family.

Celebrities are certainly highlighting that substance abuse remains prevalent in society.

According to TMZ, Demi Moore is the latest celebrity to have a substance related health crisis.   Showing photos of Moore’s daughter Rumer pacing outside the hospital, TMZ reports that paramedics took Moore to the hospital Monday night.   TMZ’s latest report is that Moore is seeking professional assistance for her ailments.

Another Demi, who has already battled drug problems, Demi Lovato, could be headed back to rehab again.   Online gossip writer Perez Hilton originally reported that Lovato may have a hidden cocaine problem.   But in an online exclusive, Hilton says that Lovato’s reps told him, ““The story was fabricated. It is completely untrue.”

Thankfully, it appears Lovato is on the straight and narrow after getting her life back on track.

These two stories follow the Heather Locklear saga.   The actress also was hospitalized recently after a frantic 9-1-1 call.   TMZ reported that Locklear left the hospital in this story.   The rumor mill surrounding Locklear’s hospitalization was that the actress and a dangerous mixture of alcohol and pills in her system.   Of course, nobody with Locklear’s camp has confirmed this.

It’s tragic to see anyone battle substance abuse.   Unfortunately, the celebrities who do have issues, are glamorized by internet sites.   Maybe we need more celebrities to come out and warn kids about the dangers of drugs.   Children look up to these celebrities and maybe their anti-drug message could help keep kids off of drugs.

Melissa Gilbert openly discussed how drugs ravaged her family when she joined up with the partnership.org.     It was refreshing to hear her reveal that, as a parent, she had little idea her children could be using.   You can read an online interview from Gilbert here.

Miley Cyrus is an 18-year old teen.   She may be a TV star, movie star, singer, and all around world famous can-do-everything girl, but the truth is she is only 18.     TMZ.com video shows Cyrus using a bong and smoking what appears to be Salvia.   If you aren’t familiar with what Salvia is, this paper published by Johns Hopkins University experts should explain it.

Cyrus shouldn’t be persecuted for this.   This is between Cyrus and her parents.   You can’t blame TMZ.com for publishing it.  It’s a great get, and it’s about the four billionth episode of teen celebrity stupidity caught on tape.     But this can be a tool to discuss drugs and peer pressure with your teen.

Families sit around the dinner table and talk about what’s happening at school, what’s happening around the community, and certainly what’s on TV.   You couldn’t have gotten by a TV, newspaper, or the internet last week without seeing this headline.    Parents can use this as an advantage, whether or not they believe in the “what Miley does, my teen will do”, belief that some parents have.   First of all, I think anyone over 14 knows that Cyrus is no role model.    Families should talk to their teens about drugs and alcohol or trying things whether it’s something you smoke or sip.

Salvia isn’t new.   It’s been around for centuries.   It will continue to be here, probably outlasting humans.   But as more teens find ways to utilize products to produce a mind-alerting effect, parents need to be more vigilant.   Communicate with your teen.   Talk to them.    Read them stories from the newspaper about teens dying form drug use.  You are going to tell your child that the stove is hot.   They will touch it anyway.

Being honest with your teen about marijuana or cocaine or ecstasy is important.   Relate stories of drug use from your time.   Most people have probably lost someone they know to drugs or alcohol.   Alert your teen to the dangers.   We know teens are going to make mistakes, but we don’t want those mistakes to be deadly ones.     Home drug testing is another way to keep your teen safe.    Some teens already have to test for school, and many will have to test for a job some day.

Myteensavers.com believes in an educational system for teens and parents.   Teensavers home drug tests are a total program.  They are a solution to the biggest secret in your family.   Don’t be the next family at the funeral home or mortuary planning your child’s services.
