U.S. and Canadian authorities showed off the haul of a major smuggling operation along the remote border area of Montana, as their press conference coincided with the first sentencing in the case.

Over the last two years, smugglers have moved 1,000 kilograms of cocaine into Canada and 1.3 million tablets of the designer drug Ecstasy into the United States over the last two years.

17 people have been arrested and a driver was the first to be sentenced to five years in prison.

The cocaine originated in the states from Southern California and was to be distributed in British Columbia.

U.S. Attorney for Montana Michael Cotter said the international investigation seized 414 kilograms of cocaine and 29 kilograms of Ecstasy, and 17 people were arrested in the U.S. and Canada, making it one of the largest drug busts on either side of the border.

“This is certainly the largest seizure both here in Montana and Saskatchewan,” Cotter said in a news conference in Great Falls.

Ryan Leaf says spending the last few weeks in jail has been the best time of his life in the last 15 years.

Despite being a brief NFL star, his comments are not that surprising.

He has been battling prescription drug abuse for years.

The former NFL quarterback could spend the next 15 months locked down in Montana.

He first would go to a locked down treatment center, then on to a pre-release living center.

Leaf has had a running battle with painkiller addiction for the last several years.

Hopefully this next year and a half help clean him up for good.

By now you’ve probably heard about the fallen Leaf, Ryan Leaf.

The former NFL #2 pick was popped not once, but twice this week for breaking into home and stealing prescription drugs.

Leaf was arrested in Montana and one set of reports indicated that he had Hydrocodone that was not in his name.

Authorities in Texas are already trying to revoke his probation there on unrelated drug charges.

It’s been a sad downward spiral for the former QB. But he’s one of the estimated 7,000,000 million people in America hooked on prescription drugs.

It’s pretty clear that his life is mimicking his career in the NFL. The ups and downs of drug use have him sitting in jail for what could be 30 days.

Leaf needs help. Leaf needs to turn his life around. If he has any friends left from the NFL, they need to come help him. He needs to beat his addictions and he needs the support for it.

It’s easy to rally around your quarterback when he’s leading you down the field in a game winning drive. But now that the roar of the crowd has been silenced and the game is long over, Leaf finds himself with an unsportsman like penalty that could have facing serious jail time.
