His overall message: Keep fighting the fight, but some people need to wake up!

As the Ventura County Star Reports, Kerlikowske discussed the unwise conventional wisdom surrounding heroin use.

“Young people don’t recognize the addictive powers of heroin,” Kerlikowske said. “They think if they snort it or smoke it, they won’t get addicted.”

Kids think they can handle recreational pill use. They get this from their use of marijuana and their mindset that it is a perfectly controlled high. But the mentality doesn’t change when heroin use sets in as well.

Parents need to stay vigilant, and continue discussing drugs with their teens.

A new law, proposed by the Senator, is in the works that would give immunity to 9-1-1 callers who are present when someone they are with overdoses.

Citing the death of comedian Greg Giraldo, the New Jersey newssite NJ.com, breaks down the proposed law.

Teensavers believes this is a much needed law across the entire country.

It’s not just the rich and famous who die like Giraldo. Teens, fearing arrest, often bail when one of their friends overdoses.

Not only should more Good Samaritan Emergency Response Acts be proposed, but they need to be publicized to let teens know that they won’t be in trouble for trying to save a friend’s life.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Rodney King died in an accidental drowning, but that the troubled historical figure had large amounts of drugs and alcohol in his system.

King, whose violent arrest in 1991, was a central element in the L.A. riots.

The avid swimmer drowned in the pool at his Rialto home after slipping into a “state of drug and alcohol-induced delirium,” according to a coroner report.

Along with alcohol, toxicology tests found traces of marijuana, PCP and cocaine.

King had a long battle with drugs and alcohol. He tried numerous time to find a cure for his disease, even appearing on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

There are many people out there that believe “legalize drugs and let them sell to all the washed up junkies out there.”

The problem is a lot of times, the buyers of these drugs are promising young minds; high school and college students who have their paths to a successful future derailed by drugs.

Agents in Philadelphia filed charges against 25 people accused of trafficking of prescription pills, cocaine and marijuana in the greater Philadelphia area, including at least three dealers accused of selling prescription pills on and around university campuses in the area.

This is two dozen more pushers who are off the streets. Others presumably will step in and take the place, as someone is always looking to make that profit off of drugs.

That operation was netting $4,000 a week, but had it continued, it would have continued to grow.

It doesn’t matter where you live, there are addicts all around you.    Millions of people are struggling with drugs.   They are good people who started off making a bad decision.

It’s not just adults abusing drugs.  While 40 people die each day from painkillers, more teens are experimenting with pills.

But Mike “the Situaiton” Sorrentino is opening up about his pill addiction. He is speaking out to In Style magazine about his Oxycodone addiction.

Sorrentino is not alone in his need for pills.

He is one of the few who got a hold of his addiction before it spiraled into heroin abuse.

A high school football coach who tried to come clean with his players about his drug related history, felt the wrath from the kids’ parents.

ABC6 in Williamsport, PA reported the story which involved a coach facing accusations that he stole medications during visits to players’ homes.

The school stood by football coach Scott Keller. The superintendent allowed him to speak before players about the accusations.

Many of the parents didn’t approve.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse has created a graphic to show the national levels of drug use. The people at Teensavers thought it would be good to show parents who don’t regularly visit the NIDA site.
