His overall message: Keep fighting the fight, but some people need to wake up!

As the Ventura County Star Reports, Kerlikowske discussed the unwise conventional wisdom surrounding heroin use.

“Young people don’t recognize the addictive powers of heroin,” Kerlikowske said. “They think if they snort it or smoke it, they won’t get addicted.”

Kids think they can handle recreational pill use. They get this from their use of marijuana and their mindset that it is a perfectly controlled high. But the mentality doesn’t change when heroin use sets in as well.

Parents need to stay vigilant, and continue discussing drugs with their teens.

People are shocked at just how effective legitimate home drug test kits are.

Parents, beware that when it comes to home drug testing, you get what you pay for.

Cheap tests on eBay and online websites are not regulated by the government, which means you don’t know if the cutoff levels you are using will catch the drug use.   A false negative could cost your loved one their life.

The youth of America got to see first hand how drug use derailed one man’s stay at the Real World St Thomas house.

The phrase “getting stupid,” used to refer teens getting high, may be more of a reality than those adolescent smokers think.

A joint study between a London University and Duke University found that teens who smoked pot in their adolescence, had lower IQ scores as adults.

They were also significantly more likely to have attention and memory problems in later life, than their peers who abstained.

The study focused on data from over 1,000 people in New Zealand, who have been followed through their lives since being born in 1972 or 1973.

Participants were asked about cannabis usage when they were 18, 21, 26, 32 and 38. Their IQ was tested at 13 and 38. In addition, each nominated a close friend or family member, who was asked about attention and memory problems.

The study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found persistent users, those who had smoked 4 times a week or more, had dropped 8 IQ points over the 25 years from 13 to age 38.

With the recent studies of marijuana as a possible gateway drug, this study may be another strong indicator why parents need to reinforce the message that marijuana is bad for children.

Many children aspire to live like a Hollywood star.

Sadly, teens every year are dying like one.

They share the same fate of succumbing to a prescription drug overdose

King, whose violent arrest in 1991, was a central element in the L.A. riots.

The avid swimmer drowned in the pool at his Rialto home after slipping into a “state of drug and alcohol-induced delirium,” according to a coroner report.

Along with alcohol, toxicology tests found traces of marijuana, PCP and cocaine.

King had a long battle with drugs and alcohol. He tried numerous time to find a cure for his disease, even appearing on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

Celebrity website TMZ.com is reporting that Real World cast member Joey Kovar, who also had a stint on “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” has died.

The website reports that family members believe Kovar’s death was drug related.

Kovar had a long history of drug abuse.

He left mid-season of the “Real World: Hollywood” to seek treatment for his drug problems.

Kovar appealed to Dr. Drew for help with cocaine and ecstasy.

Teensavers’ hearts go out to the Kovar family for their loss.

More teens and young adults are abusing heroin, and they are ending up in treatment.

Treatment experts say they are treating more people with opioid addictions.

The Sante Fe New Mexican profiled the rising heroin and prescription drug trends and they spoke with Brian Parkill with Millennium Treatment Services.

He said a that a few years ago, heroin and opiate abusers amounted to 5% of his patients. Now he’s seeing a rate that’s more than 25%.

It’s no secret people are abusing prescription drugs. Pills like Xanax, Oxycontin, and Percocet are popular from baby boomers, down to first time middle-school experimenters.

But now you’re seeing more people in treatment who never thought they’d have a heroin problem.

America’s Parenting Coach, Tim Chapman, says that the heroin addiction takes many users by surprise. “When you talk with teens and young adults in treatment, you find that they never believed that their habit would evolve into heroin. Most of them thought they had things under control, and knew they finally were full blown addicts, when heroin became their drug of choice.”

Chapman is one of many treatment specialists who recommend the Teensavers Home Drug Test Kit as a method to detect opiate abuse. Opiates are detected in the line’s 5,7, and 12 panel tests

Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid will lay his son Garrett to rest today in Pennsylvania.

The 29 year old eldest son of Coach Reid died at Eagles training camp earlier this week. While an official cause of death has not been released, Coach Reid has alluded to the fact that the death appears to be the final chapter in his son’s battle with drugs.

The Reid’s released this statement:

“On behalf of Tammy and our family, I would like to thank everybody for their tremendous support, love, kind words and prayers during this time of great sadness. Words cannot express our sense of loss.

“We loved Garrett so much. He was a wonderful son and brother. He made us laugh, he was a pleasure to be around, he always had a smile on his face, and we will miss him dearly. We will never forget him, and we will remember him with love.

“Garrett’s road through life was not always an easy one. He faced tremendous personal challenges with bravery and spirit. As a family, we stood by him and were inspired as he worked to overcome those challenges. Even though he lost the battle that has been ongoing for the last eight years, we will always remember him as a fighter who had a huge, loving heart.

“I spoke with the team yesterday and thanked them for their thoughts and prayers. I asked them to continue with their preparations for the upcoming season until I am ready to rejoin the team.

“It is in times like these that we lean on our faith, our family, our friends, and our Eagles family. We will do so in the difficult times ahead.

“Thank you again for your continued support.”
