It’s the tale of two stories.

A new study from the University of Colorado has medical marijuana activists, well actually all marijuana activists, jumping for joy.

Researchers there say that states with legalized medicinal marijuana do not a correlation in the number of teen smokers. Essentially, teens are not more likely to smoke pot in states where medicinal marijuana is legal.

But it may not matter. When you look at the CDC’s 2011 Risky Behaviors study, you will see that the numbers of teen marijuana smokers is already much higher than it should be.

Let’s take a look at some of the graphs from the study and the information breakdown by ethnicity and by state.

Roughly 40% of all teens have smoked marijuana at least once in their life. About 8% of them either tried or started their pot smoking before the age of 13.

There isn’t much disparity between the ethnicities, 38% of white teens, 42% of Hispanic teens, and 43% of black teens admitted to smoking marijuana at least once.

Many people think marijuana is more popular in bigger states with more metropolitan areas. But these stats show, pot smoking is not just tied to the big apple and Los Angeles.

How about big cities vs. little cities?

51% of Milwaukee high schoolers have tried marijuana. San Francisco holds one of the lowest percentages of cities selected for the survey.

And kids aren’t hiding somewhere smoking their grass. Nearly one fourth of them are getting high on campus.

There is no denying that there is major problem in this country with adolescent drug use, which has been soaring since 2008. Before 2008, drug use was on a lengthy decline.

These numbers tell the story.

It’s the number that is the universal symbol of marijuana; 420.

By the way, many parents (and most pot smoking teens) do not know the significance of the number. One urban myth has 420 being the number of chemicals in marijuana. If someone tells you that, tell them that they are high.

From Wikipedia: The earliest use of the term began among a group of teenagers in San Rafael, California in 1971.[2][3] Calling themselves the Waldos, because “their chosen hang-out spot was a wall outside the school,”[4] the group first used the term in connection to a fall 1971 plan to search for an abandoned cannabis crop that they had learned about.[5] The Waldos designated the Louis Pasteur statue on the grounds of San Rafael High School as their meeting place, and 4:20 p.m. as their meeting time.[4] The Waldos referred to this plan with the phrase “4:20 Louis”. Multiple failed attempts to find the crop eventually shortened their phrase to simply “4:20”, which ultimately evolved into a codeword the teens used to mean pot-smoking in general.[5]

Like St Patty’s day for drinkers, April 20th is the celebration of cannabis.

One gathering features thousands of smokers on the campus of the University of Colorado. But university officials have tried everything to thwart the toking in their quad. They used fences and sprinklers to no avail.

This year, according to the CBS-TV affiliate in Denver, the campus is turning to fish fertilizer to try to keep the crowds away. They will spread the fertilizer all over the quad to discourage attendance.

Even threats of ticketing with fines up to $100 isn’t scaring away the estimated 10,000 people expected to show up Friday.

Parents should be vigilant as children will tend to mimic this behavior. Find out where your teen is Friday at 4:20pm.

And for parents who don’t know; there’s a green box to combat the green smoking.

It’s been the haven for pot smokers for years… Amsterdam!    Holland’s home of Heineken is also home to hash, hemp, and habitual marijuana indulgence.

Harold and Kumar, the pot smoking college student characters from the movie “Harold and Kumar go to White Castle,” end their first movie, heading off the to cannabis capital of the world.

They are not alone.   Thousands each year from all over the world, especially the United States make the pot smoking pilgrimage for a trip of tokes, hits, and bongloads.

Now there’s word that the new Republican led government wants to crack down on the coffee shops.    In fact, they want to make the widely public pot parlors into private pot smoking places.

It seems silly that college students, or even 18 year olds, still in high school would fly to Europe for the sole reason to smoke some skunk, but that’s exactly what they do.   The  coalition government in Amsterdam wants to weed out the toking tourists.

This may not end the war on drugs or slow down the use of marijuana and other narcotics by teenagers and other young adults, but it’s a step in the right direction.

There’s no word as to whether or not this really will move forward.   You’d have to imagine the tourist board there would have say.
