Parents, we need your help!

We have created a POLL P on our Facebook page.   If you’ve never been there, you should check it out.   It has all of the latest teen and drug news and stories.     Today we are asking parents if they are concerned about teens and drugs.

We would love for you to come and give us your two cents.   If you like what you see there, we’d love you to “like” our page!

Here is the link for the POLL!  http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=question&id=199941093374508&qa_ref=qd

It’s been the haven for pot smokers for years… Amsterdam!    Holland’s home of Heineken is also home to hash, hemp, and habitual marijuana indulgence.

Harold and Kumar, the pot smoking college student characters from the movie “Harold and Kumar go to White Castle,” end their first movie, heading off the to cannabis capital of the world.

They are not alone.   Thousands each year from all over the world, especially the United States make the pot smoking pilgrimage for a trip of tokes, hits, and bongloads.

Now there’s word that the new Republican led government wants to crack down on the coffee shops.    In fact, they want to make the widely public pot parlors into private pot smoking places.

It seems silly that college students, or even 18 year olds, still in high school would fly to Europe for the sole reason to smoke some skunk, but that’s exactly what they do.   The  coalition government in Amsterdam wants to weed out the toking tourists.

This may not end the war on drugs or slow down the use of marijuana and other narcotics by teenagers and other young adults, but it’s a step in the right direction.

There’s no word as to whether or not this really will move forward.   You’d have to imagine the tourist board there would have say.

The L.A. Times is reporting that the border patrol has found another one of those underground tunnels from Mexico into San Diego.

The tunnel appeared to be complex, spanning 1800 feet, and containing both a ventilation and rail system.   They also seized 20-million tons of marijuana in a connecting warehouse.  The bust was made in Otay Mesa.

There seems to be some Irony that the border patrol would make an enormous bust, hours after Prop 19 was defeated.   Essentially, the marijuana would have been legal had the measure passed.   Of course, no supply of that magnitude would ever be considered legal.   That wouldn’t be the personal stash for the community of Otay Mesa alone.

The seizure of these drugs, will not keep them off the streets and out of the hands of teenagers.   Parents need to maintain close relationships with their teens, to make sure they are not using any illegal substances.    Only vigilance will ensure your child’s safety.

Most people would maintain they’ve never felt a hangover from marijuana.   Sure, we’ve all felt the pounding of a martini bender.   But Prop 19 supporters might be feeling the ill effects of a defeat, that when you take a closer look at it, could have been averted.    The last two weeks found a small push by Hollywood, with several big money guys also kicking into the Prop 19 campaign.    But the last-minute heroics by Zach Galafianakis and even  Snoop Dog were not enough to propel the measure to victory.

Galifianakis on the Bill Maher Show

Snoop, probably the most open marijuana aficionado in Hollywood recently issued this statement on the prop. “Prop 19, you know where I stand.  Very high.”    But who wouldn’t have expected the rapper to go along with the measure.   The same applies for Willie Nelson, long known for his cravings for cannabis.    But other stars jumped in this time around.   Danny Glover and Melissa Ethridge both lent their support.

But take a closer look at the numbers.   Here were the totals as of 8:18AM, according to California’s Secretary of State’s  website.   96.9% of the precincts had reported their numbers.   More than 7,329,000 votes were cast for the Governors race in California, won by Jerry Brown.    When you look at the Prop 19 vote, the NO vote received 3,891,521.   The YES vote earned 3,349,237.   The total: 7,240,758.    That means more people voted for the Governor’s race in California, that Prop 19.

As polarizing as many thought the race would be, it turned out not to be the case.   I mean how difficult is it to rally a pro-Prop 19 person to walk in, and select one thing, YES on 19?     Supporters are already arguing that they brought the issue of marijuana legalization to the forefront of politics in America, but can they ever get enough votes to enable Prop 19 to pass?

This is where the next great Hollywood sequel comes in.   One thing is clear, the wave of right-wing politics, crashes somewhere in the middle of Nevada and perhaps the border between Arizona and California.    California selected a predominately democratic government.    But the left-wing trend stops at 19.    I expect in 2012, should the measure make that ballot, you will see something like you saw for President Obama in 2008.    I don’t know if you’ll get the George Clooneys or Brad Pitts involved, but you might see something from white-hot actors like Seth Rogan.    Rogan is very vocal about his marijuana indulgence on the Howard Stern Show.    Perhaps it’s all to keep his high-guy persona, but it seems real.    He could be one of the rising stars to encourage young voters to motivate to the polls.    However motivated marijuana users seems like an oxymoron.

Marijuana legalization advocates are claiming victory, despite the sound defeat of Prop 19.   With 100 precincts reporting, the NO votes scored a 54% advantage of the YES votes.

Already supporters of the prop are calling for the issue to return to the 2012 ballot.   They are also claiming a small victory.   The issue of marijuana legalization, once the topic of a small grassroots rally, now dominates the biggest headlines on the major media sites.   California’s media sources like the LA Times, OC Register, SF Chronicle, and other smaller papers have been running daily stories on Prop 19.   But other nationwide media sources have been commenting on the issue.   This morning, big write-ups could be found in the Wall Street Journal, CNN, Rolling Stone.

The issue will smolder now as the federal government keeps a close eye on this, and the growing number of states enacting medicinal marijuana laws.   The Obama administration has already said it would come down on any state that legalizes pot.    But the White House said that once before regarding medicinal marijuana, where it can now be found in many states.

The biggest issue is keeping pot, alcohol, and any other drugs out of the hands of teens.   With a rise in teen narcotics use, it is important for parents to maintain a continual dialogue with their teens.   Home drug testing kits are an option for parents who want to feel secure about their children.
